Her Life

In life there are people who exemplify the qualities we all wish we had a little more of. Qualities like bravery, joy in the face adversity, selflessness and kindness. Arnette Hayes is the embodiment of these characteristics. She is in her own words forty-six and cute, a mother of four (two teenage girls and sons twenty-eight and thirty) and an active member of Union Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA. Between singing in the choir, dancing with the praise dancers and working in the youth ministry her church life is a full one.

It came as a shock to everyone when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of this year. Most people would lose their fighting spirit when hit with so many pitfalls. Arnette is currently unemployed and unfortunately does not have the support of her spouse. She's gone through the rigors of chemo therapy and now faces two major surgeries and radiation treatments in November. Where others may feel down and out all Arnette can focus on is the encouragement of others. She wants other cancer patients like her to know that you CAN beat cancer and that it is not a death sentence. It is positivity that begets better results and she is determined to stay positive.
